OCSW Secures Spot in National Teacher Mentoring Programme

On Course South West is proud to announce its successful application to the national Teacher Mentoring Programme, a prestigious initiative funded by the Department for Education (DfE). This achievement marks a significant step forward in the OCSW’s commitment to professional excellence and staff development.

Three dedicated staff members—Clint Jones, Sam Welsford, and Claire Stevens —began in December 2025 the 10-week Mentoring Skills programme. This intensive course, delivered by the Cognition Learning Group, combines high-level Continuing Professional Development (CPD) with practical application.

Throughout the programme, the trio will deliver tailored mentoring sessions to colleagues across OCSW. These sessions are designed to enhance teaching, learning, and assessment practices, ensuring that staff at all levels benefit from shared knowledge and specialised skills.

“This is an excellent CPD opportunity,” said Lisa Thompson, Strategic Quality Lead for OCSW. “By investing in our staff this way, we are not just improving individual skills - we are embedding a sustainable mentoring culture within OCSW that will benefit our staff and learners for years to come.”

The Teacher Mentoring Programme is part of a wider DfE commitment to the further education (FE) sector, stemming from the Skills for Jobs white paper. Cognition Learning Group, which has managed the programme since 2020, will continue to lead this work through March 2026, providing vital support to educators transitioning into the sector.
