On Course South West are working with employers across Plymouth to design and deliver high quality, free of charge training to self-employed, employed and unemployed adults to meet skills needs and job vacancies in the city.

Our Skills Bootcamps are intensive 9-week skills accelerator courses and will enable adults to build up specific sector skills and fast track to an interview with a local employer.

What can I expect from a Skills Bootcamp with On Course South West?

  • Varied learning and teaching using seminars, classroom discussion, practical investigation and peer to peer conversations

  • Some self-study bolstered by masterclasses from industry

  • Grow your network

  • Coaching support to ensure participants are ready to apply for that next opportunity, including upgrading CVs to reflect the knowledge learned and the skills and behaviours developed.  All participants will also benefit from an interview with a local employer

  • Creation of a portfolio of work, classroom activity, peer to peer working and completion of a series of short creative tasks. All of which will help learners to develop key skills in written, verbal and interpersonal communication.

  • This 11-week programme focusses on developing knowledge and understanding of key skills and provides significant time for practical application. The programme will also include 14 hours of one-to-one mentor support for career development in the 20 weeks following completion of the core delivery to ensure successful achievement of Milestone 3. These meetings can be either in person or face to face and are determined by the learners. 

    This course is designed for new and aspiring supervisors and first-line managers, to support the development of coaching and mentoring skills and techniques of individuals and teams, alongside working to achieve organisational objectives. Participants will benefit from completion of a CMI accredited award in Coaching & Mentoring.

    Course dates start and end dates per cohort: Wednesday, 30 September 2026 - Wednesday, 16 December 2026 (9.30am start)

  • This 14-week programme allows for a deeper dive into key knowledge and skills and provides more time for practical application and developing positive workplace behaviours. The programme will also include 16 hours of one-to-one mentor support for career development in the 20 weeks following completion of the core delivery to ensure successful achievement of Milestone 3. These meetings can be either in person or face to face and are determined by the learners. 

    This intensive 14-week boot camp is designed to equip learners with the essential knowledge and skills required to excel as a teaching assistant. Aligned with the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma (6032496X), the program will cover key areas such as supporting learning, promoting positive behaviour, safeguarding, and developing professional relationships. The boot camp format provides a focused and accelerated learning experience, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application.

    Course dates start and end dates per cohort: Wednesday, 14 October 2026 to Wednesday, 20 January 2027 (9.30am start)

  • This 8-week programme focusses on developing practical skills, underpinned with the core knowledge required to get started in the care industry. The programme will also include 12 hours of one-to-one mentor support for career development in the 20 weeks following completion of the core delivery to ensure successful achievement of Milestone 3. These meetings can be either in person or face to face and are determined by the learners.

    This boot camp provides an intensive introduction to the core skills and knowledge required of a Healthcare Support Worker in England. The 8-week course will help you to develop your occupational knowledge, skills and behaviours and support you to work toward your Care Certificate, that includes the 15 standards essential to providing high quality care. This Level 3 course will also support you to gain employment by creating a CV, developing interview skills, building confidence and improving key functional literacy and numeracy skills for the sector. It's designed to give participants a strong foundation for entry into the healthcare sector or to enhance the skills of those already working in support roles and access to the Adult Care apprenticeship. Each session is designed to be interactive, incorporating a mix of lectures, case studies, group discussions, practical demonstrations, and hands-on activities.
