GCSE Success With On Course South West!

Two adult learners at On Course South West have proven that it’s never too late to return to education, successfully completing their GCSEs and opening new doors for their futures.

Dan Brown, who studied both GCSE English and Maths and has today passed both with flying colours, returned to education with a clear goal: to improve his career prospects and keep future opportunities open.

“To give me better chances in the future should I choose to change career due to my age,” Dan explained. He praised the welcoming and supportive environment at On Course South West, saying: “It’s been a long time since I was in the classroom, so it did help a lot.”

Dan’s journey has inspired him to consider a future in teaching, possibly working with adults or learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). “I feel inspired to help like I have been helped,” he shared. His advice to others thinking about returning to education? “Just do it! You have nothing to lose but everything to gain.”

Tristan Harris, who completed GCSE English and received a high grade pass, also returned to learning with a career change in mind and needed a grade C in order to be accepted onto the college course.

He credits his tutor, Chris, for creating a supportive and inclusive classroom environment. “Chris was good at involving everyone and made me realise that there are no wrong answers, just different perspectives,” Tristan said.

The use of online portals and group work helped Tristan stay engaged and connected, even when he couldn’t attend in person.

Tristan has already enrolled on an electrician course and is looking forward to completing it within a year. “Education is the way out of everything,” he said.

Councillor Sally Cresswell, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Apprenticeships, said: “Huge congratulations to Dan, Tristan and all our adult learners who have completed their GCSEs at On Course South West this year.

“Their achievements are not just personal milestones, but important reminders that with the right support and determination, change is always possible.

“Our team pride themselves on being supportive and welcoming to all learners, so please reach out to find out more if you’re interested in returning to education to help you move forward in your career, or just to support your own personal development.”

🎉 We are delighted to announce our GCSE students had a 100% pass rate for Maths, English and Science. Congratulations to all our learners on this wonderful achievement.
