Adult Learners Thrive with OCSW as Basic Maths Course Exceeds Expectations at PLUSS Centre

A basic maths course, initially planned for four weeks, was extended to a full ten week thanks to the enthusiasm and engagement of the adult learners. The course, delivered in partnership with the PLUSS Centre in Scott Business Park  proved to be a huge success, significantly boosting the confidence and skills of all eight participants.

The course was designed to reach maths concepts, covering a wide range of topics essential for daily life. These included number work, times tables, addition and subtraction, shape, money, measure, time, and even Roman numerals. To keep learning engaging and relatable, the course incorporated a variety of interactive activities. Learners enjoyed whiteboard games, the hands-on creation of a working clock, and lively rounds of Bingo, all demonstrating the practical application of maths skills.

"It was lovely to see any maths anxieties disappear and confidence shoot up as the course progressed," remarked Noel Mitchell, the course tutor. This sentiment was echoed by the learners themselves. Upon completing the programme, all eight participants reported a significant boost in their confidence, skills, and knowledge when dealing with everyday maths. 🥳
