Our tutor Sue didn’t start off wanting a career in counselling. It wasn’t until her fifth child was grown up that she enrolled for her first adult learning course, gaining a GCSE in English. Inspired by her tutor, she went on to study a law degree at University and became interested in counselling. Sue explained, “my tutor really encouraged me to keep going and gave me a sense of worth. I found that learning really does have the potential to change people’s lives.”
She now teaches counselling courses to adult learners at On Course South West and is also a qualified counsellor with her own practice. Her experience and knowledge, coupled with her ability to ensure learners are professionally supported, is one of the main reasons for the 100% pass rate. The pass rates have been verified by our awarding organisation, CPCAB.
Yet, it is more than just the qualification that learners gain, Sue describes: “It’s not just about being a counsellor, it’s about giving people strategies to improve the quality of their relationships in work and life. I’ve taught learners from many backgrounds, from social workers, to customer services, police and even HR managers. The course helps people to develop better communication and listening skills.“
Here is a selection of comments collected from some of Sue’s learners:
“Thank you so much for being a fantastic tutor over the past two years.”
“Thank you for continuing to support me.”
“I have thoroughly enjoyed having you as my tutor over the last few years.”
“You have made things interesting and at times funny with your passion and openness.”
“You’ve been supportive and inspirational!”
“Thank You – we couldn’t have done it without you!”
I managed to pass my GCSE, probably one of the oldest learners at age 64. Now I’m looking to get back into learning and hopefully take an A level in maths.”
Studying English Functional Skills, I now have an improved confidence and I can walk around with my head held high.
Helped me find the real me. I now have the confidence and the qualification to find myself a job. Thank you to my tutors who believed in me and pushed me to my limits it sure has paid off.
I have now passed both my functional skills courses and am currently studying for GCSE’s. I must admit it’s much better and I am way more confident.”
Everybody’s really welcoming, and nobody judges you, and you can be who you want to be. It’s just a great way to get going.
Just started the Introduction to Counselling Course & it is excellent!
Really enjoyed the Introduction to Training course. The trainer’s style was creative and engaging. Would recommend to anyone.
I recently attended two of the free workshops and I was amazed how much I learnt, the tutors were very passionate about the craft they were teaching and the fact we all got to bring items home that we made was so wonderful. I would recommend to anybody.
I’ve just received my results and have passed both my GCSE English & Maths. I left school in 1988. Getting the chance to redo them was a great opportunity for me. Such a good feeling to have passed, onwards and upwards for me.
